Inspired by creator Matt Gilgenbach's real-life struggles with depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder, Neverending Nightmares puts players in control of a man who continually wakes up in new nightmares. Gamers navigate through 2D environments that are primarily black-and-white, with the only splashes of color serving to highlight important objects like a candle or disturbing images of blood and gore. Most of the action consists of avoiding confrontation and attempting to separate reality from imagination, and the game offers branching paths and multiple endings.
